Music Director, Luca Peveroni
Luca began his musical career taking up the trumpet as his instrument of choice. His first serious studies with the trumpet took place at Wilfrid Laurier University where, in 2013, he graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree. In 2012, Luca enrolled as a reservist musician in the Canadian Armed Forces. After completing the Basic Military Qualification and courses at the Canadian Forces School of Music, he spent time performing as a military musician across Canada, including two summers with the Royal Canadian Artillery Band, one of the Canadian Armed Forces’ six full-time bands, in Edmonton, AB.
Following his studies at WLU, Luca completed a Master’s Degree in Trumpet Performance and Literature at the University of Western Ontario under the direction of trumpet professor Dr. Aaron Hodgson. In conjunction with his trumpet studies, Luca was also fortunate to spend time studying the Wind Ensemble, its repertoire and the art of conducting under the supervision of Dr. Colleen Richardson, Director of Bands at Western University.
In 2017, Luca received the Queen’s Commission as a Music Officer in the Canadian Armed Forces and has since taken up the role of Director of Music of the Royal Canadian Navy Band of Her Majesty’s Canadian Ship STAR. In this role, he has enjoyed refining his skill as a conductor while combining the military music tradition with the rich repertoire of the modern Wind Ensemble.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Luca participated in the development and delivery of a new system of online instruction for conducting students of the Canadian Armed Forces. Most recently, he has taken up the position of Resident Conductor at the Canadian Forces School of Music and Acting Director and Conductor of the Milton Philharmonic Orchestra.
